Do not confuse the whispers of the Authentic Self with the voice in your head. Perhaps you’ve not yet separated yourself from the chain of thoughts and still unconsciously identify with that voice that is loud, pessimistic and never stops talking. Begin to be more attentive. Learn to differentiate between that critic’s voice (harsh and unproductive) and gentle nudges of your Self that are unexpected, productive and wise.

When you make “focus on the breath” a daily routine, you’ll experience the presence of Awareness, presence of your higher Self. The whispers of your Authentic Self are from the one who is within you, who knows you, knows you more than you know yourself. This Self provides you freedom from your separate ego self. You may believe that your small ego self is in control. But it cannot be if you don’t let it. If you let the Self that watches you all the time to guide you, it would love to do so. You simply need to be attentive to its whispers. When you live in the present you begin to recognize the its whispers and nudges.

Wherever you go, the present moment is with you. In that moment everything feels connected, as if whatever has happened, good or bad, has happened due to a reason. You surrender to each and every moment. You realize that you only know a fraction of the whole story. You realize you can never know the whole story. Because events and your thinking mind move in sequence but the whole story is circular.

Each present moment is circular and you are its sacred center. When you pay attention to here-now, you bring your awareness to your physical self, to the breath and to mindfulness. This helps you ground yourself in the now. You are no longer lost in the passing thoughts but are settled in your sacred center. When you don’t identify with your thoughts you realize how much deeper you are than the floating thoughts. It is like this: your Authentic Self is an enormous ocean with depth. You’re an integral part of it and the egoic small self is only little waves on the surface of the ocean—constantly changing.

From that deeper self you witness how you constantly identify with your thoughts. If they are good thoughts you feel good, if they are bad thoughts you feel bad. However, once you understand that you’re not the waves or the passing thoughts but the deep ocean. You say to yourself, “This too shall pass.” Your feelings will stop fluctuating because you don’t pay attention to passing thoughts. You will remain at the center where Authentic Self, your Awareness, dwells. Awareness, your “I Am,” is not your passing thoughts. It is always right here, present and at peace. You feel “happy without any reason.” Allow life to be what it is, surrender to it, accept it and peace and joy will prevail.
