Read this sentence
“It is hard to clear 10-15 minutes in my daily schedule
to sit still in silence and solitude.”

How silly does it sound? Do you chat on the telephone, surf the internet, watch television? How long do you spend on any one of these passive diversions? Then, why do you find it difficult to find 10-15 minutes of quiet? Why do you think that it is a waste of time, especially now when you know it’s benefits?

Sitting quietly provides time to settle the sediments of your mind and to become aware that something in you is aware of you being aware of these sediments. Reflect on this for a few minutes and know that as soon as you are aware your mind brings you to the present moment.

That reflection makes you realize that behind your experiences, behind the masks you wear something is constantly watching you. It watches you when you walk, talk or just be. But you don’t know it because your experiences veil it.

Your Authentic Self is this pure awareness, your consciousness. It communicates in stillness and silence. Its language is beyond thought, sensations or feelings. It is unrevealed behind your monkey mind. It may peek from behind the cobwebs of your mind when you begin to ask yourself, “Who am I?” or “Who am I when stripped of all my experiences and memories and masks?” “Who am I when I am by myself unmasked and authentic?”

Slowly you begin to recognize the voice of your Authentic Self, the way you recognize the voices of your parents, your spouse, your children. Keep in mind that your Authentic Self is the awareness that makes you aware that you’re aware. It is essential that you practice being aware and living in the present moment.

When you are Here and Now your awareness is one with you. With practice you learn to bring the inner quietude right into the present moment. When you bask in self-recognition of your aware self you live with loving heart and trusting mind. When seeds of loving kindness and wisdom are sown; they begin to sprout and blossom. Doing so does not change your external circumstances will they will change you !

Love this, Madhu! Especially this line, “ Keep in mind that your Authentic Self is the awareness that makes you aware that you’re aware.” Thank you for sharing!
