Longevity

New Research # 1
So that you know
We have been told that our brain has “Left” hemisphere and “Right” hemisphere, and each one of us is either dominated by the “Right hemisphere” or the “Left”? However, the recent research using brain scanning technology has revealed that brain’s two hemispheres work together intricately. They are codependent.

It is still true that the right brain is more creative and artistic and the left more technical and logical. But the processing of reading, math and language is understood to take place in both hemispheres. And more importantly for us to know that regular meditation practice connects and coordinates the two hemispheres. And the more they connect the more optimally we perform on any given task

New Research #2
So that you know:
We have five senses, if we include mind there are six. But now neurologists have added six more senses to our physiology. They are:
1. The sense of what your body parts are doing (Sensations)
2. The sense of which posture you’re seated in.
3. A sense of pain.
4. A sense of temperature.
5. A sense of  passage of time.
6. A sense of your internal needs like hunger, thirst, need to use the bathroom.

To become more sensitive to the twelve senses, I recommend the following routine of five disciplines (out of eight we practice) for sharpening your brain:

  1. Body Movement: What is good for the body is good for the brain. The connection between physical fitness and brain fitness is clear and powerful.
  2. A Creative Hobby: that gives you a strong sense of purpose.
  3. Rest and relaxation: Listen to music, take a long shower, sit silently in nature, take an afternoon siesta. Brain needs to chill out as much as our body does.
  4. Nutritious Meals:  Whole grain such as barley, quinoa, brown rice, whole wheat, cold-water fish (salmon and trout), almonds, walnuts nuts and chia seeds, whole fruits and vegetables, extra virgin olive oil. Limiting foods high in sugar, saturated fat and trans-fatty acids help avoid memory and brain decline and maximize its performance.
  5. Connecting with others is a wonderful way to sharpen brain. Having a diverse social network. These improve brain’s plasticity and help preserve our cognitive abilities.
