Lovable Sweet Mother,
Oil on Canvas, 1978

You’re learning to connect with your Authentic Self, your awareness that is nothing but joy, contentment and peace. This conscious Self knows you better than you know yourself. When awakened, it never fails to lend its ear or point you toward the right direction. You may converse with it in journaling, in meditation, paying attention to your intuitions at any time, any place. It is your personal therapist—wise and kind.

We are learning to differentiate between conceptual thought and deep awareness. We discussed how attention can be cultivated and how awareness rises when you stay embodied and live in the present. Attention on breath and being alive to the present moment is the beginning of the practice of mindfulness.

You continue to practice Silent Meditation and Body Scan meditation. Sitting still in silence relaxes the body. A relaxed body results in a calm mind. How you feel in your body and mind affects your outer circumstances in important ways.

The sacred space within you that is slowly blossoming takes months, even years to form and develop. For now, the outer space you’ve designated for meditation and journaling is evolving into a significant space in your daily routine.

The journey you’re on is neither through the country nor around the world, or even to outer space. This is a spiritual journey. You are learning to go within yourself to connect with your Authentic Self and plant the seed of self-acceptance, self-trust and self-understanding. Witnessing your personal spiritual growth calms your mind and delights your heart. By the end of a year or three or more you will become one with your Authentic Self, your lifelong companion and mentor.

By now, I hope you have established your Personal Power Spot, a daily practice. Missing a session once in a while will not stop the peaceful moments and serendipity that the practice will bring.

Oh Madhu, I love your painting! The expression… warmth… and feelings it invokes — and I sense a bit of a smirk is forming as if there is a wonderful secret hidden underneath. Fascinating!
I’ve yet to find a power spot. I meditate where the mood feels right. Like today, 80 degrees, I’ve done the OM meditation outside on the deck. I also don’t keep to a certain time. I’d like to try a consistent time and place to see if I feel different or get into a deeper meditation quicker. But for now, flexibility is key.

Madhu, your painting is a gift, like you’ve introduced us to your sweet, loving mother. Thank you for sharing. Lorraine, when I first started meditating and journaling with OMWG, I kept a very rigid schedule and had two specific spots in which I practiced and I would feel cranky if interrrupted or a change in scheduling meant I couldn’t practice in my usual ways… but the pandemic broke me of that rigidity, and if there’s one thing that came out of the pandemic, I personally, could say that it forced me to be more flexible. Like you, I now meditate in many different settings, at flexible times and I am much happier for learning that aspect of the practice. Thank you for sharing!
