Day 329, Friday, November 29, 2024

Reflections Inspiration Today, think about a flower growing in your garden, or a bright orange and yellow and bronze leaf that is falling to the ground, or a painting in a museum. As you did yesterday with a favorite book, today consider this item you may have seen ten or a hundred times, but approach it with a beginner’s mind. What do you notice first? What makes you smile? When you are free, when you are listening and seeing with your heart, when you are not restricted, you enjoy looking or listening differently. Know the difference between analytical learning and aesthetic delight. The former is knowledge, the latter insight. Awe and wonder can lead you on a new path, but the trail will become visible if you allow yourself the freedom to walk....

Day 320, Wednesday, November 20, 2024

Reflections Inspiration What you intend to work toward are the contents of your mind. However, “monkey-mind” replaces that content with whatever you pay attention to. Some things are transient, such as the movie you just watched, the book you are reading, or the song you are listening to. But if there are trials or tribulations, problems or struggles that are constantly circling your mind, please replace those with your basic intentions that lead to a meaningful goal. If you don’t have an immediate goal, then think of your mantra, a favorite song, or an inspiring saying, and make that the content of your mind. Your brain will no longer constrict with the burden of your problem. It is not to say to avoid the problem but rather to not make it a broken...

Day 319, Tuesday, November 19, 2024

Reflections Inspiration If you haven’t experienced the depth of awestruck moments, you are a breathing body merely pumping blood. Your mind goes everywhere you don’t want to go. But making or appreciating art, reading, writing, and travel make you realize you are more than your body. You realize you are capable of experiencing aesthetic delight and peak moments of spirituality. These may be transient but they deepen and heighten the quality of your life. You know how you can glimpse divinity within you. You also know your imagination has no limits. What I’m saying may inspire you, even magnetize you to the practice, but at the back of your mind remain the questions of how to pay the rent, buy food, or perhaps attend to an ailing family member. You are tethered to...

Day 318, Monday, November 18, 2024

Reflections Inspiration Negatives in life seem to go on forever, but joyous feelings last only for moments. You may have met your basic needs of food, water, shelter, and clothing. And you may have achieved self-esteem, love, and respect… yet the feeling of mortality still hovers at the back of your mind.  Always remember the way your inner mentor is present within you at each and every moment; so are the experiences of awe, wonder, and pleasure surround you. Become aware of them with your mindfulness. They give meaning to your life. When you feel at one with everyone and everything around you, you have a sense of immortality. You have intellectual knowledge. And you have emotional intelligence. But deep understanding does not come from one or the other. Understanding requires both intellect and...

Day 317, Sunday, November 17, 2024

Reflections Inspiration Approach your life as if you were watching an autobiographical movie. Live in the present. Make each day count. Fear of one thing or another will show its head, but when you are present here-now you realize there is no immediate danger. Yes, there is so much not under your control. But there is so much that is. So learn to live courageously. One of the major benefits of mindful practices is that they disclose secrets of eternity, universality, and a higher self within you. The sense of “I Am. I’m more than my physical body” infuses fearlessness in you. A creative and spiritual path allows you to experience “flow.” When in the middle of that flow, you feel your best and do your best. You chattering ego goes quiet. Clock time falls...

Spiritually Fired? Light Others!

To the quote below I would add that while lighting another candle it flares brighter. It turns wiser by teaching. So keep giving of yourself. Disseminate the knowledge you have, share your surplus, keep your heart open. Then watch your days turning happier and more satisfying. ...
