Peak Moments II: Looking Up at Teton Range

How Ordinary turned into extraordinary

Peak Moments II: Looking Up at Teton Range

Today and for the next few weeks I’ll post the poems I wrote after experiencing peak moments in nature. Looking up at Teton Range, Grand Canyons and Mount Denali. I share my deep feelings and photos whole heartedly with you. Hope you enjoy!

TETON RANGE
Jackson, Wyoming

On our way to Yellowstone
our bus stops for a bathroom break.
Waiting last in line
midst summer meadows of swaying yellow flowers and wild grass,
I inhale the same air as the Teton Mountain Range.

I see people existing a log cabin.
I walk to it
Enter as the last person leaves
the Chapel of Transfiguration.

The sparce decoration on the log wall,
I sit in silence on the front pew.
A ray of sunlight coming through the large glass panel blinds.
My eyes close I wonder.
What is transfiguration?

When I open my eyes the rays have shifted.
In front of the panel on a table are
a wooden cross, two candles, the meadow flowers in vases.
Through the glass
The miraculous Teton peaks!

They transmute into symbols of sacrality
Boundless. infinite.
The resolute rootedness stills me.
Infuses me with effulgence of tenderness

“Let’s go! People are waiting,” from the door my husband’s words smash the nimbus.

At home, I look up the word.
“Transfiguration.”
An everyday form that changes into a grander beauty and spiritual majesty.
Or when Jesus’s face transformed into shining sun and his robe radiant white.

Was I unwittingly, in a Christian chapel, transcended to spiritual ecstasy?
