Be Your Own Judge and Jury

Be Your Own Judge and Jury

The best way to know what is going on with your life is to know what is going on within your body. Familiarity with your physical self allows you to know your present situation. The things you’re doing right and the things you are not doing right.

Body scan followed by a silent meditation is the only practice where you simply can’t lie to or cheat yourself. You’re closer to your Authentic Self—the clear blue sky behind stormy clouds. In the company of your Self, you know when you must hold yourself accountable for the minor or major situations. You do so because you want to take responsibility for your own negative thoughts, words or actions. You can’t deny truth to your Authentic Self. You just can’t. So, meditative mind becomes your courthouse where you are the criminal, the witness, the jury and most importantly your own judge.

When you present your case and argue for and against over and over again your self-understanding increases with leaps and bounds. You tell yourself to behave better. The way you would teach your child. The better you behave the more confident you feel. Your self-understanding increases. This is because you no longer feel guilt or doubt lurching within you. Guilt and doubt make you lose confidence and keep your True Self behind grey or dark clouds.

Meditation also dissipates the emotions of anger, fear, jealousy, hatred, greed. The more mindful you are the more kind and compassionate you become. And when we face an angry person who argues nonstop, confronts or uses sarcasm you learn not to react. Stay quiet. You let their words pass by you like oil over water.

The practices of meditation and journaling teach you to consciously make changes from within until you are at peace. But don’t rush. Take your time. Patience is your best friend.
