Pleasure of Writing Meditation

Pleasure of Writing Meditation

Mindful writer does not spend too much time talking about getting published. She just writes! She knows unless she births a good book there is nothing to publish. When she mails a manuscript to an editor or an agent, at once she begins her next writing project. She does not forget that the reason she began writing was the sheer love of writing. Not for fame or fortune.

Her goal is to finish a good manuscript and move on to the second and then the third one. She believes that a fine manuscript, with right effort, patience and perseverance, would get published.

As a mindful writer, my best Writing Meditation days are when I mediate before sunrise. After the sunrise, I journal for half an hour and then get absorbed in the work in progress. As the hours go by, I am transported to the creative dream world of my current writing project, oblivious to the surroundings and the passing of time. I only realize that the sun has set when my body tells me that I am done for the day.

Gradually, I become aware of the diminishing flush in my cheeks and ears; subsiding current of energy, which until then was surging through my body. My mind begins to let in random thoughts. My heart working in unison with the mind until then, is gratified. This is no way my daily experience but remembering how it feels summons me to my writing desk every morning.

The fruit of Writing Meditation is experiencing joy in the creative process itself. Energy surges forth. Words accumulate. Drafts are completed. And this is the reason why I fell in love with the art of writing at the first place.
